Rancier Farms is a fourth generation farming operation established in 1905. The farm consists of a mixed grain operation and a black based cow herd consisting of 85 black and red purebred and percentage Simmental cows.
We have been raising purebred Simmental cattle since 2001 and through an extensive embryo transplant program our numbers are steadily increasing. Our embryo transplant program has also enabled us to put together a herd of closely related females that consistently produce offspring that are widely accepted in both the purebred and commercial sectors of the beef industry.
Cow families are extremely important to us and we are highly selective, emphasizing structurally sound, easy fleshing females with lots of volume and longevity. We are also very aware of the important economic traits like calving ease, early growth and efficiency. We believe these traits as well as predictability and consistency are all keys to a profitable cow herd.
Rancier Farms uses the show ring as a marketing tool; an opportunity to stay in contact with many commercial and purebred breeders, and to exhibit a small sample of what we have to offer at the farm. We enjoy exhibiting cattle at many of the major shows in Canada and while our main goal is to breed functional cattle that will excel in a commercial operation we have had success in the show ring as well. A highlight for our program was winning both Supreme Champion Bull (Intuition) and Female (Flirtin with You) over all breeds at Farmfair International 2008 in Edmonton. Then in 2009 a son out of Intuitions first calf crop returned to win Grand Champion Bull as well as Legends of the Fall all breeds Champion Bull. Another highlight was exhibiting Grand Champion Female at the Canadian Western Agribition in both 2007 (Dreamchild), 2008 (Flirtin with You), and returning with a daughter of Flirtin with You in 2009 and 2010 to be Reserve Grand Champion Female. In 2010 our herd bull Stout 930W was named Grand Champion Bull at the Canadian Western Agribition and returned in 2011 to be only the second bull in history to be Grand Champion Bull 2 years in a row. He was also named the 2011 National Champion Bull at the National Show at Farmfair International, Edmonton, AB.
